When friends and family visit

Once you're settled, people will want to come and see you. A few things are worth booking before they land.

Rail passes are for them, not you

The Japan Rail Pass is meant for people entering Japan as temporary visitors. Once you're living here on a work or student status you generally can't use it yourself, but your visitors may be able to, and it can make a multi-city trip much cheaper.
